A door that sticks or drags

Heavy, grinding sliding doors are almost always a wheel problem. The wheels, or rollers, sit in the bottom of the door and carry its full weight, and over the years they wear flat, crack or seize. Once that happens the door scrapes along the track instead of rolling, which wears the track too. Replacing the wheels usually brings a door straight back to life.

A door that jumps the track

If your door lifts off its track, wobbles at the top or hangs at an angle, it may need adjusting and realigning, or the track itself may be damaged. A bent or dented track, or one packed with grit, will throw a door off every time. We do the track work needed and set the door back on so it runs straight and true.

A door that will not lock

A sliding door is often the biggest opening in a house, so a lock that does not catch is not something to live with. When a door is out of alignment, the latch can miss its keep even if the lock works. We realign the door, and where the lock or latch is worn or broken, we replace it.

A door that lets the weather in

Seals line the edges of the door where it meets the frame and the other panel. When they perish, you feel it: draughts in winter, dust on the floor and a whistle when the wind picks up. We replace worn seals so the door closes snugly again.

Handles take a beating on doors that are used many times a day. We repair loose handles and replace broken ones.

Whether your sliding door is aluminium, wooden or steel, we repair it. The parts differ, but the approach is the same: work out what is really causing the trouble and fix that, rather than forcing the door to cooperate for another week.

Why small problems grow

Sliding door trouble rarely fixes itself. A door with worn wheels drags on its track, and the track wears down with it. A door that has to be forced shut puts strain on the latch every single time. A perished seal lets grit into the track, which makes the wheels work harder still. Catching these problems early usually means a quicker, simpler repair.
